skype test call fail

Just upgraded skype 4.1.0.20 on ubuntu 12.10 I can see all my contacts and it tells me that test call is on line the test sound works so speaker and web cam is working but when I try to make a call to test call the call fails. What can I try.

Do you hear yourself when you use sound recorder? Do any applications work with the microphone?

Yes the mic works and sound plays. and the web cam shows the picture. I even tried it with the fire wall switched off.

The level control works on the sound adjustments on Ubuntu set sound

Try renaming the skype config folder in your home folder after closing the application then rerun and setup the client. Skype is a mess in Linux, such a halfass implementation (imho)
