Using Dreamweaver

Asked by Andrew Marshall

I am thinking of taking on a small website that uses Dreamweaver. I'm new to this sort of thing and will have basic tuition to edit, delete and append, which is fine for the time being. I want to do the whole - know loads about it sort of thing - like you do. I only have Ubuntu on my machine, no partitions or anything. I was wondering about the best way of going about it. Is there a Linux version? I tried the dreamweaver website and it wasn't obvious. Could I use a M/S version through some intermediate software, which is available for Linux? Or is there some Open Source equivalent that means I could cross refer, pretty much like Open Office and M/S Word?

There is an open source program called Nvu which can be a replacement for Dreamweaver. However it isn't as feature filled. Should you require Dreamweaver still, I recommend looking into something called WINE. It is a compatibility layer for windows programs on linux systems. You can read more about WINE at these links: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Wine en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wine_(software) . Wine isn't perfect yet but it maybe possible to run Dreamweaver.
