Bus error (core dumped)

After doing my weekly security update, I got this notification when I tried to start Firefox using the terminal. There is no way I can get Firefox or any other browser to work. I only uploaded 6 or 7 small software packages, maybe 1.5MB. I use ubuntu 12.04 and the latest Firefox edition.

This can be a problem with libc or a RAM failure.
Run:

sudo apt-get --reinstall install libc6

…and do a memory check from the Grub boot menu.

The problem seems to have solved itself without my doing any of the above.

Thank you for your assistance. Mysteriously enough, when I tried to use Firefox on my old laptop earlier this afternoon, I was able to get on line by using the terminal and disabled add ons, the so-called secure mode. Then I closed down and restarted Firefox without the terminal, and it worked as usual. I have never had this problem after updating--is it common?

Can you give ne more insight on how to run a memory check from the Grub boot menu, just in case I ever need to do this?

Hold down the Shift key while booting, a menu will show up. In the menu you will have the option to start the test. Works with the Ubuntu install media as well.
