Java desktop application with unity-system-compositor

Asked by Andrea Pucci

When running ubuntu 13.10 with xmir/unity-system-compositor enabled all java swing-based desktop applications fail to start after their initial splashscreen. I have tested this behaviour with Oracle SQL Developer v. 4, NetBeans IDE 7.4 and SquirrelSQL Client 3.5.
By analyzing log files, I always see these exceptions:
java.lang.RuntimeException: cannot load system cursor: CopyDrop.32x32
[...]
Caused by: java.awt.AWTException: Exception: class java.lang.IllegalArgumentException Width (0) and height (0) must be non-zero occurred while creating cursor CopyDrop.32x32
    at java.awt.Cursor.getSystemCustomCursor(Cursor.java:362)
[...]
Failed to load a window
java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Could not initialize class java.awt.dnd.DragSource
This happens with both openjdk and oracle jdk.
When running with regular xserver they work fine.
How can we solve this?

I suggest you report a bug. Saucy is not stable, ready or for regular users.
