Logout, Restart and Shutdown options in indicator panel not working after upgrade from 13.04 to 13.10

Asked by Abhishek

I upgraded my system from Ubuntu 13.04 to 13.10. The process completed smoothly without any error.

However, now the Logout, Restart and Shutdown options in indicator panel are not working (Suspend works).

I can logout, restart and shutdown from both Cairo-Dock and terminal (gnome-session-quit).

I tried tweaking settings in dconf-editor and after changing /apps/indicator-session/suppress-logout-restart-shutdown to 'true', I am able to perform logout, restart and shutdown.
However, this option suppresses the confirmation dialog, which eases accidental restarts and shutdowns and breaks my productivity.

I can't reinstall the system again as I have tons of software.

So is there any workaround (edit some conf file or anything like that) for this problem. This problem is not unique to me : http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2181434

Any help will be appreciated!!

If you make a new user, is it the same if you log in as it?

ticking this in dconf editor

/apps/indicator-session/suppress-logout-restart-shutdown

makes my options of shutdown/restart work again albeit without the confirmation request. What is buggy though is if i uncheck it my restart option in the top menu disappears! the option below ((suppress-restart-menuitem) is unchecked hence it should show in the top menu but suppress-logout-restart-shutdown seems to want to make the restart option appear and disappear not only that but if they are all unchecked i lose the restart option and pressing shutdown does nothing! Enabling suppress-logout-restart-shutdown shows restart in the menu again and i can shutdown, restart but i dont get the shutdown/restart confirmation pop up.

The error seems to be strongly related to cairo-dock. I performed the following test:
a) Install a fresh 13.10 --> shutdown menue works
b) Install cairo-dock --> shutdown menue still works
c) Restart computer --> shutdown menue still works
d) Make cairo-dock start automatically by inserting it in the autostart --> shutdown still works
e) Restart computer --> shutdown-menue does not work!
d) Get cairo-doch out of the autostart --> shutdown menue works again

Conclusion: Autostart of cairo-dock stops shutdown menue working correct

Confirmed this does seem to be a problem with cairo dock when it i auto started. When took out of the startup apps the confirmation pops are back. When cairo dock is started manually at first boot the confirmations are fine too only when it is autostarted do we lose the confirmations. Time to hit the cairo dock bugs page ;) Thanks

Same problem here, i hope that cairo-dock will fix this soon. For me, it replaced gnome-panel :-)

I also upgraded my system from Ubuntu 13.04 to 13.10. The process completed smoothly without any error.

However the Logout, Restart and Shutdown options in indicator panel are not working (Suspend works).

And no, I don't have Cairo Dock installed.

On other sessions, inclunding guest session, logout, restart & shutdown options work as expected.

Any help much appreciated.

Had the same problem. Thanks for this. I though that's it because of the update which I made from Ubuntu 13.10 to 14.10. Thanks again. Hope that cairo dock will be able to resolve this soon. Also, I don't know if this is a problem with cairo dock, but whenever I point the mouse on a certain icon in the dock, the notification or the name of that icon is blackened. No identification for that certain icon. Several of the icons in the dock is like that, while others isn't. Could anybody help me please? I would appreciate it much. Thanks. By the way, I'm just a newbie in using linux as an OS.
