Certain English characters missing in displays

Asked by Bruce MacAlister

Certain English characters are missing in displays. The title at the top of most displays (windows) have a title. Often there are other titles within the display. Mosly it is the letter E, but other letters disappear as well.

In mycurrent terminal display heading I see
b uc @b uc -O iPl x-GX260:~

Where I should see
bruce@bruce-OptiPlex-GX260:~

Browser displays, Text Editor, LibreOffice, the text in the Termial session are all correct.

Have you tried the Unity2D session which is selectable on the login page?

Thank you for the suggestion. I switched to Unity2D. It has not been a very long test but that seems to have solved it. It also appears tomake the machine run a little faster. I'll close this as solved and open it or a new one later if that does not solve it over time.
