installing Ubuntu 6.06 on Mac PowerPC G3

Asked by Raghuram

I am trying to install Ubuntu 6.06 LTS for Mac on my PPC G3 that already has Mac OS X 10.2.8 installed. The CD cover that I received said that I just have to put in the CD and reboot. But, everytime I do this, my machine directly boots OSX and not the CD. Switching off and on the system did not help either. Am I missing something?

Regards,
Raghu.

Thanks! That got me started on a nightmarish journey... thanks to repeated attempts (and apparent free time on hand) I am closing this query from my laptop running Ubuntu and configured for a dual boot of Ubuntu and Mac OS X!! Thanks again.

Hi I have the same problem with Booting my iMac PowerPC G3. It is not about hold the C-key at boot.
No other CD's than the native OSX CD's will boot on this computer.
I have OSX 9.2 Norwegian version. Can anyone help me with using MKISOFS to make a CD that will boot and install Ubuntu on iMac? I will write this CD from a separate Ubuntu 9.04 computer english version.
Can anyone please help?
I have tried the Ubuntu PowerPC ISO, it didn't work. The CD must specially be written for the old iMac.
