Did you MD5 test the ISO you downloaded?
How did you put the data onto the USB drive?

Thanks

I did not mds test is=t, I booted to it on another PC. I installed the system using USB creator in Kubuntu.

Did you manually download the ISO or did you let the application download the ISO for you?

I always use Kubuntu bit torrent to get the O/S

Have you tried a different USB port or USB stick?

So I take it that getting the ISO using bit torrent is better and I don't need to mds check it because I can boot to it on another PC? But I will try another flash drive however, some new systems with windows 8 have locked out ubuntu installs. Is There A Work Around For This Problem? I feel this Toshiba has that issue. I can boot to a factory system restore (win 8) on a usb flash drive, so booting to flash is no issue. when the bios sees linux (kubuntu lts) it just goes to default windows 8 on the hard drive.

Yes. The torrent protocol adds a lot of error checking to the data.

So what about the rest of my questions...? Who has access to the knowledge base to see if there is a work around for this issue? Will they be able to check for a solution?

If it is a brand new laptop, it might come with Windows 8 and UEFI booting
See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UEFI for some hints.

Can you help with this problem?
