i typed 'sudo rm /* ' & now 7.10 not booting -" kernel panic " .

I typed in terminal - 'sudo rm /*' instead of 'sudo rm ./*' because i wanted to delete some files as root.
Now i can't boot ubuntu even when i try in rescue mode. The last few lines are :-
These are the last few lines while booting in recovery mode :

kinit: trying to resume from /dev/disk/

Begin : Running /scripts/
run-init: /sbin/init : No such file or directory
[31.111366] Kernel panic not syncing : Attempted to kill init!
I mounted this file system from another linux and found that the /cdrom , initrd.img and vmlinuz files are not present in filesystem i.e / .
