I want to copy an existing Gutsy environment to a laptop

I have a desktop with Gutsy dual boot with Vista Ultimate (I never seem to use Vista any more?). I also have a laptop with Gutsy but nothing else. I have a backup made with sbackup for the desktop. Is there a way to "restore" the backup to the laptop so that, at least initially, the 2 will be the same? I don't need to "synch" the 2 PCs on a regular basis, but when I (occasionally) travel it would be nice to start out with the laptop having the same programs, data, email, etc. I don't travel often and I don't use the laptop unless I travel.

My growing love of Linux, and particularly Ububtu is due largely to the spirited participation of users to help each other. Thansk for any help you can give.

Here is some additional info:
1. The sbackup was done to a removable USB drive which the laptop recognizes. There is quite a bit of software installed on the desktop PC.
2. The main differences with the desktop are video (Nvidia 8600 - dual monitors vs. laptop screen), RAM (3GB vs 1 GB) and storage device layouts.
3. There is nothing on the laptop that is important (except Gutsy).
4. I am a relative newbie but with many years of computer use (my first computer was an Atari 400 then an 800)

please not that ubuntu doesnt official support moving your setting to another desktop.but you can move you application using apt get cd.goggle it.thats putting repo
on cd/dvd.i hope you like it.i dont know much about exporting setting,google it or goto softpedia and find some application or gnomefiles.thanks

I decided that trying to do something that is totally unsupported by Linux was not in my best interest. I will be finding another solution, such as apt-get anything new that I need on my laptop.

To my knowledge, sbackup creates a list of installed packages whenever you do a backup. This is a separate file called "packages". You could install all programs on computer 1 on computer to by navigating to the backup folder and doing

apt-get install `cat packages`

(I think. I haven't done this personally, use at your own peril!)

This would be a usable way to install packages already on computer 1 to computer 2.
