make public user account

Asked by Neil

hi all
I want to make a public user account.
set up second account for public, so like guess no password. but just like guest limited useage.

so I can setup the icons in unity launch and not be changed. ie just have chrome, writer and shotwell as an example.

but will go straight in that desktop from boot up not the main account(mine)

I hope I am explaining myself okay.

so bottom line something like guest.
but "signs in" automaticly but that I can configure the icons in the launcher so that they can't be changed or at least on reboot as I set it.

Thanks
Neil

You can configure LightDM to log into the new account without issue. Just specify the session in the conf file and you will have that functionality.

If you enable autologin and the user is not able to use sudo (which I advise) then the password is moot but should be set.

Log in as the user and setup the session as you desire. Users logging in after that will then use your config.
