how do i install Ubuntu on windows vista

You have several possibilities, but first of all you have to download the ubuntu 8.04 .iso file (http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download).

Burn it onto a CD (using something like Nero or ImgBurn as Vista cannot burn .iso's). If you restart your systen with the CD in the drive, you can start the LiveCD (remember to change the boot order in the bios; CD first :) ).
In the LiveCD environment, you can basically test everything and check if it works. If you think you're good to go, click on the "Install" icon on the desktop.

A new feature of Ubuntu 8.04 is that you can also install (and uninstall btw) Ubuntu within Vista. I would recommend that to you, as you don't have the hassle of formatting new partitions and such. Simply insert the install disk in vista, and the autostart will let you install Ubuntu. There's is some perfomance loss, because ubuntu will be stored in a huge file in your windows file system and you won't be able to suspend and hibernate. If you need any more help, just ask.

You can directly use 'Wubi' included in ubuntu CD(8.04 only). You don't even have to make a partition for it.
