How to load marks in package menager after..

Asked by ostap

I tried Ubuntu with KDE for a month or two, and installed all applications I thought I need. Now I would like to install Ubuntu 8.04 (with Wubi installer) again, but do not know how to keep all my marks in package menager. Is it possible to save them on USB flash, and load again after new installation? Also, I am not sure, will all apllications which are NOW marked for REINSTALLATION be visible, or marked for INSTALLATION later, to make the things easier? Thanks.
P.S Since I am new in Linux, which program would you advise me for system maintenance, but first of all, easy to install!

ostap,

You can use synaptic to do this. Open synaptic by navigating to System > Administration > Synaptic Package Manager.

Then in synaptic navigate to File > Save Markings (or Save Markings as), check the box "save full state, not only changes". Name the file whatever you want. This is the file you want to save.

When it's time to restore, you go back to Synaptic Package Manager, and go to File > Read Markings. I haven't tested this, you may only have to click "Apply" or it may install them for you.

Please report back here and mark the question Solved if this resolves your question.

Thanks!

Thanks, I think it solved my problem, but it is time for new. I have onboard soundcard and also M Audio Audiophile 2496 installed. and really do not know which of them works when I start Ubuntu. Sometimes works one, sometimes the other. Which settings should I make to make only M Audio work in all apllications. Besides, Linux is fantastic, I installed it the second time, but now just with applications I need, and it is really great. Thank you indeed!
