UBUNTU 7.10 / Java

Asked by peter

Hello

I've a question because I've problems to install Java.

I followed the steps described in the instructions of www.java.com (Linux (self-extracting file)). I guess the installation of Java worked and I assume that Java is ok,

The problem appeared in the Enable and Configure section. The first lines of these section are:

# Go to the plugins sub-directory under the Mozilla installation directory
cd <Mozilla installation directory>/plugins
# In the current directory, create a symbolic link to the JRE ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so file Type:
 ln -s <JRE installation directory>/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so

First I changed to the plugins sub-directory /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins.
Then I createtd the symbolic link to the JRE ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so.

And this is the problem: In Nautilus the type of this link is mentioned as a broken link! And I don't know why.

Do you have an idea? Thanks a lot.
Peter

you can get all kinds of java via synaptics or add/remove: the browser plugin? the runtime? the web start?
the named ones you install most comfortable via add/remove( in the applications tab) just search for "java" and the runtime will be listed there
if that solved your question please set to "solved"
thanks
