First Login fails and loops back to Login Screen

Asked by Brightbelt

Hi,
This concerns Ubuntu 8.04 plus I am running it on a Macbook Air laptop. A first login with the correct password fails to log in and the user gets looped back to the login screen.

On the second login attempt, the login always succeeds.

I'm not sure this is a bug anymore, since I discovered that changing my GDM theme fixed the issue. I don't know of any way to delete this bug report, so I'm turning it into a question.

Can I ask how you fixed this? I'm having exactly the same problem and remember changing my theme back in 7.10.

Well, I've bodged it a little by renaming the .config directory in my home folder. Haven't a clue what in there was breaking it, but at least I can login again now.

Unfortunately I do not have the powers to change the state of this question to SOLVED, EXPIRED or INVALID. Someone here at Launchpad either grant me that permission or simply apply the change in state to this question, please.

Can you help with this problem?
