Unable to launch Ubuntu Software Center

Dear All,

On launching Ubuntu Software Center, i see the loading screen for few seconds and the application automatically minimizes.
I have installed ubuntu 14.04 and I am absolutely new to it.

On top of it, there is an error symbol displayed at the top taksbar and it shows this error
"E:Encountered a section with no Package: header, E:Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_trusty_main_i18n_Translation-en, E:The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened."

Please provide your valauable help.

cd $HOME
wget https://dl.dropbox.com/u/8850924/fixpackage
chmod +x ./fixpackage
sudo ./fixpackage
