is downloaded file Live CD

Asked by pcnerd

I have a book on Ubuntu that has a Live CD in the back. Yesterday, I tried to run it from the DVD. It started. I saw error messages before I saw the orange bar going back & forth & then some error message. I tried again & the same thing happened. Maybe the file on the DVD is corrupted. Is the downloaded file that's burned on to the CD a Live CD? I want to try out Ubuntu, but I don't want to install it on my new laptop.

Likewise, is the free CD a Live CD?

Thank you.
David

Did you try checking the media for defects? It may have gotten scratched, which would be a huge problem.

Also, I believe that the free CD is a Live CD.

There are fingerprints & dust. Are both the download & the free CD Live CDs? You stated "Also, I believe that the free CD is a Live CD." Well, I just got a new laptop in June & unless I'm sure that the free CD or the downloaded file that becomes a Live CD after the file is burned to a CD is a Live CD, I don't want to take a chance that it will format the hard drive & install Ubuntu.

Yes, the CD you download from the website (http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download) and the free CD from ShipIt (https://shipit.ubuntu.com/) are both LiveCD's.

Can you help with this problem?
