ubuntu 5.10, without changing Windows OS

Asked by siva

I like to use the ubuntu 5.10 in my pc it has 256 RAM

* without changing or deleting the files in the Windows

* without altering the Windows 2000 OS

* before i tried with the Ubuntu 8.10, i think that is not compactiable with my pc-- its Frozen my pc. So quit tring Ubuntu 8.10

* i have a doubt in Ubuntu 5.10 wherther it has a option for installing the U5.10 without changing the Window files and related documentation.

* anyone explain this (step by step in installing this Operating System)

Thanks
siva

Ubuntu 8.04 is the first version that had the capability to install within Windows and would be a decent option for you if you had more ram. (Minimum recommended is 384Mb).

Version 8.10 is still in the Alpha stages and will not be released until October 2008.

Version 5.10 is 3 years old and a little dated now.

My recommendation would be to get another 256Mb Ram and then install using the ver8.04 "live desktop" CD from here
(with 256Mb it may work but will be slower)

just my 2 cents:

256k ram sticks for older computers are really cheap now, typically you could probably find another stick for about 10-20 bucks. I don't know what kind you'd need, but im willing to bet it would be pretty easy to find. If you want to post the model of your computer i, or somebody else, could probably tell you want kind you need.

On another note, if you dont want to/cant spend 10-20 dollars on more RAM, consider trying to pull some from an another computer you might have, or possibly get some from a friend. If all else fails, post back here, and I'll see what I can do!

Can you help with this problem?
