caps lock key

Asked by john

I am using ubuntu 8.04. Since a recent update for Open Office, the caps lock kep works in reverse - for Caps Lock on I get lower case letters. For Caps Lock off I am getting capital letters. How can this be resolved?

Hmm, I do know about some bugs concerning the caps lock button in the xorg server.

Try resetting the caps-lock button?

xmodmap -e "remove Lock = Caps_Lock"
xmodmap -e "add Lock = Caps_Lock"

But I'm not really sure if that'll work...

I am not sure ir I understand exactly what I have to do and where. Are you able to explain a little more please.

I notice too that the shift key also works in reverse of what is intended. Shift gives lower case. No shift = capital letters.
