Configuring & Which CD to use

Asked by Milardo

I have 2 Sun Solaris Enterprise E450, which CD to use? I have Ubuntu 7.04 for PC and Ubuntu 7.04 for 64 bit PC.

I need to use the Solaris to boot entirely on Ubuntu rather than SUN - is it possible?

Please guide me on the installation steps.

Thanks in advance.

UFS (Unix File System) is used by Solaris. UFS has different subtypes in it like 44bsd, sun, nextstep, openstep, etc. Most of the cases, it is mandatory to specify the UFS type (ufstype=value) when mounting UFS partitions from Linux. For more information on this see 'man mount'. I would recommend you to check if your '/etc/fstab' has correct UFS type in it.

Hello !

You have to edit your /etc/fstab file (gksudo gedit /etc/fstab), locate the line describing your Solaris partition and add ufstype=sun after "defaults" (which gives defaults, ufstype=sun)

Hope this helps !

Benoît

Thanks for that, but I just got my 5 free Ubuntu cds by mail and they are the latest version how cool! Anyways, I am not getting the error message anymore.

I have the same server Sun Solaris Enterprise E450 inwhich I don't intent to use Sun OS. I have with me Ubuntu 7.04 64-bit system - can I use this to install on the Server?

Of course why I wanted to use Ubuntu is just because I don't really know Sun OS.

Please guide me step-by-step from the 1st putting -in the Ubuntu CD in the CD drive of the Sun Solaris Enterprise E450.

I am really a nooby here. Help me.
