Updates, reload Synaptic P M, Firefox very slow.

Asked by michael

A few minutes ago I did a reload, in Synaptic Package Manager. It took 12 minutes. When updating Ubuntu 14.04 64 bit, it can easily take an hour. Firefox, on first try, to get on the Internet, it may take from 15 seconds, to 2 minutes. On Minitube, the wait at beginning, and between songs, (or any type of file) is usually about 2 minutes. I did an internet speed test 4 different times, on different days, the speed was around 7.5 Mbps. Booted to previous kernel, same problem. Tried other user, same problem. Ubuntu was updated today. I have never had a problem like this. Chrome, Opera, and QupZilla don't seem to have this problem. Anyone have ideas or something to check? Thanks

Test RAM health using Memtest86 from GRUB as a good place to start

I had run one pass of Memtest. After you answer, I ran Memtest ten hours, nine passes. Tested good. Needed to get on internet, went to other computer that has Ubuntu 12.04, that I do not use much. It has same problems. Makes me think that problem is with Internet provider.
