video problem may cause me to leave ubuntu!!!!, i had 1024X768 but needed to reinstall and the new download doesn't see the via unicome why, it was automatic before, i just a plug n play user that is human?

i needed to reinstall my ubuntu that i like so much, so i downloaded a new iso and burned, the new iso doesn't give me automatically the video resolution i can get, it did before? it is giveing me 800X600 and i know before i reinstalled i was getting 1024X768, what happened. the reason i like ubuntu is that i does things automatically and i don't have to worry!!now i may have to take ubuntu off cause i not getting my video resolution i use too!! my box is an everex with via c7-d processor, i did upload the info of my system under tdmeskimo@hotmail, help

I had a problem like that, I was given this help and it worked.
press alt+ F2
 in the box that appears type
gksudo displayconfig-gtk
run
were it says plug n play click on it and try to find your monitor and set the rez that you wont, or just set the rez with it still on plug n play, set the hz as well. that will depend on your monitor, IE, CRT or LCD.

mine for example in set at plug n play 1024x768 at 50hz
it seems to work okay
if it goes black, don't panic it will come back if you don't accept the setting it take about 5-6 second. so just wait, then try a different setting.
