Query of Ubuntu 8.04 64bit

Asked by minyaloth

Is Ubuntu 8.04 64-bit edition more supported than was 7.10 64-bit edition. I ask this because I couldn't update codecs or anything in the 64-bit edition so I installed the basic version of 7.10 but i'm not sure which edition of 8.04 I should get because in 7.10 64-bit, everything was so limited.

One specific codec I noticed was the recommended ones to play an .avi . It said that it was not supported in the 64-bit edition and I also noticed this with numerous other programs. I figured since 64-bit pcs are relatively new, they weren't supported as much there, I'm just wondering whether they will be more supported in version 8.04

Unless you have a specific need for 64bit there is no reall difference performance wise between it and 32bit, also 32bit is better supported in most cases.

I have 8.04.1 64-bit, I haven't had any problems in installing gstreamer plugins to view DivX or DVDs.
