Can you describe "it wont install" a little better?

What did you do? What happens when you plug the camera to the computer?

Do this to know what kind of camera it is:

- Open a terminal (Applications -> Accesories -> Terminal)
- Plug the camera to your computer
- Type "dmesg | tail" without the quotes, copy and paste the output here.
- Type "lsusb" without the quotes, copy and paste the output here.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I'm using a laptop with Windows XP, the camera could be used immediate
once plugged in the USB socket, but in my PC where I am running
Ubuntu, nothing happened after I plugged it in the usb.

- Open a terminal (Applications -> Accesories -> Terminal)
- Plug the camera to your computer
- Type "dmesg | tail" without the quotes, copy and paste the output here.

HERE'S THE OUTPUT

[ 101.513148] ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:01:00.0[A] -> GSI 16 (level,
low) -> IRQ 16
[ 101.513486] [drm] Initialized radeon 1.28.0 20060524 on minor 0
[ 103.209247] agpgart: Found an AGP 2.0 compliant device at 0000:00:00.0.
[ 103.209290] agpgart: Putting AGP V2 device at 0000:00:00.0 into 4x mode
[ 103.209314] agpgart: Putting AGP V2 device at 0000:01:00.0 into 4x mode
[ 103.700144] [drm] Setting GART location based on new memory map
[ 103.700221] [drm] writeback test succeeded in 1 usecs
[ 104.543807] NET: Registered protocol family 10
[ 104.544954] lo: Disabled Privacy Extensions
[ 114.856810] eth0: no IPv6 routers present

- Type "lsusb" without the quotes, copy and paste the output here.

HERE'S THE RESULT
marlone@marlone-desktop:~$ |susb
bash: syntax error near unexpected token `|'

I have to admit, I'm not a techie guy and a very newbie to Ubuntu. So
I don't know what's happening...

I still couldn't use my webcam in Ubuntu.

Thanks for your help.

The second command is "lsusb", with a lowercase L, not | (pipe).

The camera must be plugged in before you execute lsusb.

Put the output here. This is to know more about the chip inside your camera, and provide with better help.

This part:

[ 927.274792] Linux video capture interface: v2.00
[ 927.421692] usbcore: registered new interface driver snd-usb-audio
[ 927.422066] uvcvideo: Found UVC 1.00 device A4 TECH USB 2.0 Camera

It says you webcam has been recognized. There are some programs you can test your webcam with:

- Camorama (sudo apt-get install camorama)
- xawtv (sudo apt-get install xawtv)
- Cheese (sudo apt-get install cheese)

Also, these IM programs have webcam support:

- Kopete (sudo apt-get install kopete)
- Ekiga (sudo apt-get install ekiga)
- amsn (sudo apt-get install amsn)

Sometimes the permissions are bad in the video device, so change them this way:

sudo chmod 777 /dev/video*

Now it should work.

Mr. Guillermo Belli

Thank you very much for your patience and support...

My webcam now is working...

You've won my support to Ubuntu and the Linux community that I am now
recommending using Ubuntu to my friends and workmates.

I was fascinated with the terminal that I am now learning to use it
and I am trying my hands in using Python programming language.

Again thank you so much for your support.
