Openoffice 3.0

Asked by peter

Hello

I have a question and I am using Ubuntu 8.04. Do you know a web site where I can find the installation instructions for Openoffice 3.0? I already got some hints, but they didn't work.

Thanks a lot.
Peter

Hi Christopher

I have two another question.

I downloaded the file and I uncompressed it. No problem till yet.

I would uninstall Openoffice 2.4 and used the Synaptic manager. I marked the entry OpenOffice for removal. But after the removal I could still open the writer. So it's not uninstalled.

Do I have to mark all marked Openoffice entries in the Synaptic manager to uninstall this package completely?

Thanks for your reply.
Peter

Hi Peter,

Removing "openoffice.org-core" will also remove writer, calc, draw, etc.

After you remove openoffice.org-core, install Open Office 3.0, and then try running deborphan (you can install it with Synaptic, and then run it by typing 'deborphan' in the terminal). It will list any library files which Open Office 2 left behind. You can then remove those files if you want to free up some space (deborphan lists packages that aren't depended on by any other package).

You could always remove all of the packages named openoffice.org-*, but Open Office 3.0 might reuse some of them, so you'd be wasting some time (I don't know for sure if it does reuse any packages, but it might).

Hopefully this helps you.

Hi Christopher

I love you *llll. Openofiice is installed and it runs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's wonderful. Thanks a lot!

But I have still one question: I would install the German spell checker - because I live in Switzerland. In the version 2.0 it was placed under File > Wizard. But now I can't find it.

Do you have an idea how I can install spell checkers?

Thanks a lot and have a nice time.

Hi Christoper

I found the solution. It's Tools > Language > More dictionaries online. I installed the German dictionary. But if I make a spellcheck, it says immediately "The spellcheck is complete" and it doesn't find the errors.

What can I do?

Thanks
Peter

Hi Peter,
From what I've read, spell checkers are now extensions. They can be downloaded from the openoffice.org extensions page:
http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/dictionary

There appear to be 4 German options:
http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/project/dict-de-DE_frami
http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/project/dict-de-OLDSPELL
http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/project/dict-de-DE
http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/project/dict-de

I don't speak German (my Dad never taught me), so I'm not sure which one will work best for you, but they are there.

Hi Peter,

Sorry, I replied to your last question before I saw the new one.

I'm not sure how to fix the spellchecker, this post might help you:
http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?p=361#p361
But to be honest, I don't really know. Good luck!

Hi Christopher

I installed the dictionary. Via Tools > Language > More dictionaries online. So I have it. But the spellcheck doesn't work.

Thanks.
