file drag and drop

I am trying to copy scanmodem to my home directory. When I move it I get a message that says it is owned by root. I can't sign in as root in the GUI. How can I change the permissions on this file to get it into the home directory?

You can start the "file explorer" - Nautilus with the root account
Open a terminal (shell) and type:sudo nautilus

You will be prompted for your password. Then Nautilus will open as root.

Thanks chris that got me one more step forward. Now the problem is gedit Modem/ModemData.txt produced a blank page
