How Do I Test To See if A webcam Is working through Ubuntu?

I Have a Digital Concepts Digital camera/webcam. But i cant figure out how to see if the webcam part is gonna work, It finds the camera when its plugged in, it then opens "F spot" so I know it can take the camera. but where do I go to use Video? Does anyone know?

You could use ekiga which is a client for internet telephony similar to skype which supports video, that's often a good test of a webcam.
The other option would be to install cheese which is a tool to take pictures and videos from your webcam.

Open a terminal window (Applications, Accessories, Terminal) and type:

gstreamer-properties

press Enter. On the resulting screen open the "Video" tab and click the "Test" button.
