Serious slow issue

Asked by reptileguy

Ok So I asked a question awile ago about how my computer used to be so fast now its struggling. Why computer was fasted before it got hacked by some guy who put 4000 icons on my desktop. I got rid of those and everything. But the computer was still slowing down. Everything freezes, or goes to that grey color dim when its having a hard time. Even the update manager goes grey. So tech support where I bought the computer said that the hacker could have left something behind that I was unaware about, and he said that they should do a complete reinstall. So they did. And it didnt help at all. Its also strange that if I unplug the ubuntu hard drive and plug in on with windows, this computer is click and go. Never freezing. So I really dont understand. Um my system information Is A custom Built 3.0gig cpu, with 504mb of ram.

The freeze is caused by a program which uses all the cpu power, maybe with an high priority.
You should paste here the output of running 'top', it might help :)

The only top I know about is the one you use in the terminal which tells you who is logged. What are you refering to?

Command 'top' lists all running programs ordering them by cpu usage. I think the command you're talking about is 'id'.

Dear reptilegut, I know what top outputs... you have to take the name of the first processes in the list; they are the most expensive processes at the last refresh. You have to know what process is causing trouble to solve the problem.

Can you help with this problem?
