Intalling the most current version of HPLIP

Asked by Paul Garff

I've downloaded the HPLIP 3.17.9. How do I mark it as executable and get it installed? Sorry that I'm such a novice. detailed instructions would be helpful. Thanks, P Garff

I was in terminal mode when trying to run the command. I also just tried to open hplip-3.17.9.run with gedit. It runs for about 20 minutes and then quits saying something about invalid codes.

It's a binary installer like you would run in Windows.

Did the chmod command run OK?

What is the output of:

ls ~/Downloads

Thanks

The chmod command did run OK , however, /Downloads/hphip-3.17.9.run returned -- command not found.
The out put of ls Downloads./hplip-2.17.9.run is Downloads/hplip-2.17.9.run

I still cannot get hplip-2..17.9.run to install.

I don't use Windows so I don't know how it would run there.

You missed the tilde character

~/Downloads/hplip-3.17.9.run

Is the command you need.

This is the results when I downloaded HPLIP 3.17.10. Could not find 3.17.9.

I tried three times on Ubuntu 14.04. One time on Ubuntu 16.04.

Opening the file in gedit does nothing. You need to use chmod on the file to mark it as executable, then run it as a command (just like when you type 'apt-get') but do not use sudo.

On my Ubuntu 16.04, with HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus, HPLIP 3.16.3 works correctly.

The answer you want is at.

http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install_wizard/index.html

If you go through the questions it ask, answer them, it will tell you which HPLIP version you need. I have just done this. For some reason, I cannot download version 3.17.10, but I do not need it.

Can you help with this problem?
