Portable Driver Issue

I bought an Inspirion 910 and just received it with a WD My Passport 250gb portable drive. When I try to connect the drive to the computer, the autorun program will not start. When I try to run the program manually, the program will not start. How do I get the software to load so that I can start to access my files that are saved on the drive?

The software on the external drive is probably Windows-only, so it won't work under Ubuntu or any other GNU/Linux distribution. Is this software for file encryption? do you need to access this software in order to access your files? If so, you will have to connect it to a computer running Windows, else you can just mount it under Ubuntu and access your files with the file manager.
