I have completely installed ubuntu 2009/kubuntu on my macbook pro.
So far so good . It is connected now to the internet by ethernet network.
However inspite of the Hal Device Manager recognizing : AR5418 802.11abgn Wireless PCI adapter by Atheros Communications. It is not recognized by the Systems Hardware Drivers or Software Wireless.

Which version of Ubuntu/Kubuntu are you running? 8.04 or 8.10?

Please go to Applications > Accessories > Terminal (open a terminal or your package manager) and install madwifi:

sudo apt-get install madwifi

Now please see if this works.

If not please see this thread:
http://tech.libersoft.it/2008/ar5418-and-linux/

I am just wondering what version of Ubuntu you are running. This specific card may be problematic in Ubuntu 8.04 due to madwifi not being updated with the proper support for it.

Thanks,

Craig

If you continue to have problems with this please see the following bug (for WPA/WEP security):
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/278190

I would advise using MAC authentication security on your router's side (instead of WPA/WEP) and hiding the hostname. This may avoid conflict for now until they fix this bug. Feel free to subscribe to it and wait for the fix to be released. This is ONLY IF you experience the issue after you get the WiFi card working.

Can you help with this problem?
