were did it go envyng

Asked by Neil

HI
I had envgNG installed and as far as I can tell still do, It is in synaptic package manager, envgNG core is ticked, but the icon in applications-system tools has gone. can some one please tell me how to put it back.
so I can update the drivers as I think there is a new one for my nVidia.
Thanks
Neil

Try Right-click on the Applications button, it should let you edit the menu. Is Envyng in there and unticked? Tick it, job done.

If it's not unticked in there then try running it from the command-line
Applications - Accessories - Terminal
You'll probably need superuser priveleges so if it complains try again with "sudo" at the front

sudo envyng-gtk

try using the tab button from about halway through typing the command to help it 'autocomplete' in an intelligent 'predictive texting' type of way.

If none of that works try "reinstall" in Synaptic

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)

If you are using 9.04 then avoid envyng for ati graphics cards. I have just had a bit of a nightmare in having to uninstall proprietary drivers and then i installed OpenSource drivers which also borke my systeem and i had to uninstall them. 9.04 does not support series 1000 ati cards :( They work but just not with any drivers :( !!

Good luck and i hope you've managed to recover by uninstalling drivers from the command-line! I was forced to re-install at one point because i din't knwo how to find the name of the thing i needed to uninstall!
