How do I upgrade a notebook from 8.10 to 9.04 Notebook Remix

Asked by LEGOManiac

I'm aware of using:

sudo update-manager -c

to upgrade the OS to 9.04, and I've already got a question in about how to use the CD to do this.

I have a notebook that I want to upgrade to the 9.04 Notebook Remix. My concern is that If I just run update-manager -c, I'll just get the standard 9.04 desktop and not the notebook version.

I need to know how to upgrade from 7.04 standard desktop to 9.04 Notebook Remix.

Firstly its "update-manager -d"
Secondly it will stay ubuntu netbook remix because it will be updating the package "ubuntu-netbook-remix".

Actually, it is sudo update-manager -c

-c checks for a new release and gives you the option to install it.

-d checks for a developer release and, since I'm not a developer, I wouldn't be intereseted in those packages.

I have updated two PCs so far with -c, now I'm working on a small notebook.

When you say it will "stay ubuntu netbook remix" I think you misread the question. As indicated, the notebook currently has the standard desktop installed, not a netbook remix (which I don't think existed back then?) so if I upgrade it, I would expect it to upgrade to a standard desktop when I really want the Netbook Remix install.

Then just
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-netbook-remix
and
sudo apt-get remove ubuntu-desktop

Hope that helps
Shane

For what it's worth, I didn't install the Netbook Remix version. I installed the regular Ubuntu desktop then, from a command prompt, typed:

sudo apt-get install ubunto-netbook-remix

After the reboot, I could switch between them from the System->Administration menu.

While this takes up more space (because I didn't uninstall the regular desktop version of Ubuntu), it does give me the option of flipping between them until I decide which interface I like better.
