Is your hard-drive over full? (mine usually is unless i'm downloading something). During bootup do you get a menu with lots of options for booting into Ubuntu ? The 2nd option "recovery mode" has a "Clear some space" option worth using, and then "Resume normal boot" ;)

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)

With the information "Failed to delete the item from trash" also comes an explanation as to "why". Most probably it is a permission issue so you would see an explanation that says "You do not have permission to delete this file".

To delete the items in trash, open a terminal and type or cut and paste: sudo rm -rf ~/.local/share/Trash/files/*
Press Enter and then Ctrl+d to close the terminal.

This is one way of removing "stubborn" trashed files.
