base system installation error

Asked by Rhyannon Morrigan

As I'm trying to install Unbuntu on my laptop, it is getting stuck repeatedly at 6% telling me that it cannot downlown pkg zlib1g and the gives me a base system installation error. I've tried attempting to continue the installation and it tells me that it is an unclean target, but does not continue the install.

If youre installing stable (5.10) version, you should check CD integrity.

The cd was checked before it was sent to me, so that shouldn't be an issue. I've also tried installing it from the cd drive and then swapping out that out for the dvd drive (it's a modular drive on a laptop) to see if that impacted it at all and no luck.

This error means in 90% of the cases that the CD has an error.
