You might be able to access your DB files using OpenOffice Base (command is "oobase"), or you might need to run Ms Access through crossover/wine.

Let me restate the question. I am a MSAccess developer which at this time requires the end user to use Windows OS. By using MSAccess runtime the end user does not need MSAccess installed. Can a MSAccess .mdb or .accdb be installed on a ubuntu OS computer?

There's no valide information on Access (Runtime) for wine. Wine's commercial part (Codeweavers Crossover) supports older full versions as silvers, which means "quite good". No information on the runtime at all.

So you might try running your application on wine yourself to check compatibility. As your customers will blame *you* if it does not run, *you* should check if it works :-)

But to be honest: I don't think it's a good idea selling your customers into running your Access applications on wine/Ubuntu. There's too much trouble. It would be much wiser to develop new applications with multi-platform capable tools.

To answer a possible next question: There's no linux native (or multiplattform) tool with equal function volume to microsoft acess. Well, that's not quite true: Lotus Notes 8 is capable of that. But it's neither free (your customers need a valid licence), it's still beta and Ubuntu is not officially supported (although it does run).

Can you help with this problem?
