Internet Explorer alternative?

Hi, I am wondering when using Ubuntu sometimes some sites or programs require you to use either Windows Media Player or Internet Explorer. What program for Ubuntu can replace these? It would help to know because then you could not have to rely on Windows.

Opera can masquerade as IE. I recomend that. WMP can be easily replaced by mplayer, totem, vlc etc
