ubuntu 9.04 load error - please help

I have a Powerspec B647 pc (Intel Q8200, Nvidia mirrored disk) on which I am trying to install ubuntu 9.04. I have tried both the 64-bit and the 32-bit versions and get the same failed result. Both disks boot just fine. I can "try out" ubuntu and it seems to work on the machine just fine. I have run both the disk and the memory diagnostics from the ubuntu disk. The tests complete without error. When I install ubuntu on my pc (from the menu as well as from the "try it" option) it complete without any problem. It tells me to remove the disk and restart. Then I get text only that says something like 'error loading operating system'. I cycle the power and try again with the same result. Then I re-install XP so that I can ask why this is happening to me --- please help.

Did you MD5 test the ISO you downloaded? Did you run the CD verifier once booted to the CD?

If these both test ok then you can try some boot options:

If the "Try Ubuntu without making changes to this machine" option does get you to a working desktop we call that a LiveCd session

It might be easier to do the md5sum test from the LiveCd session if you can manage to navigate to the right place from the "Places" menu

The best way to install ubuntu, even as a test, is to do a proper dual-boot, preferably starting with the installer icon on the LiveCd's desktop

What do you mean with "Nvidia mirrored disk"? I don't know it...

How did you install Ubuntu together with Windows XP: side-by-side, from within Windows or etc.?

You reinstalled XP and now of course you can boot only to it.

I suppose you installed Ubuntu from within XP. Further I suppose a graphics-card problem in your installation.

Well, are you able to run Ubuntu 9.04 from it's LiveCD NOW?
Then if "yes" try to go further from there choosing "Install Ubuntu". If you stop that installing Ubuntu procedure at the page that is asking for username, password etc. by clicking "Go back" you will have your computer system unchanged.

Now if you try it this way would you please tell us what's happening trying to install Ubuntu this way?
