Cycle through windows of an application

I started using mac recently and one of the features they have that I liked a lot was the ability to cycle through windows belonging to a particular application. For example, if there are four or five firefox windows open along with a few other openoffice, im client (etc.) windows and the user is just interested in switching between the firefox windows then in the case of mac, invoking apple-key+tilde does the trick.

I know that in Ubuntu Alt + Tab will cycle through all windows; but I was wondering if there is way to cycle through only windows of a particular application

As you mentioned Atl+Tab will cycle through the windows. You can also use Atl+Shit+Tab to go in the opposite direction. I like to set up my apps in separate workspaces. If you did this the Alt +Tab and Alt+Shift+Tab would effectively only cycle through the windows in that workspace. If each app had its own workspace this would create a scenario where you are cycling through the windows of just that app. You can use Ctrl+Alt R/L arrow key to switch between workspaces. You can create as many workspaces as you want.
