Remove ROOT Version 5.18/00b

Asked by stoutimore

Some time ago, I installed ROOT Version 5.18/00b. I didn't know what I was doing; I never use the application; I don't think it's necessary; and I don't know what to do with it anyway. How can (and can I safely) remove it?

From the desktop go to the System->Administrator->Synaptic program.

Click the status button in the bottom left. Select Installed above.

In Quick Search in the tool bar enter ROOT

This will show all packages with 'root' in the name or description.

For each package related to ROOT click the green box and in the menu that appears select 'Mark for removal' If there is a main package that other depend on, selecting that for removal will also mark the dependencies. Be careful to make sure the packages are related to ROOT and not some other function (root is quite a common work in Linux land!)

Once done, click apply and the packages will be removed.

Having it installed won't have any significant impact other than taking up disk space.

Thanks. That did the trick. But for your advice, I wouldn't have had the kahoneys to remove it, because, like you say, "root" is quite important in Linux land. Thanks again. John
