Vancouver. Wireless driver issue with Realtek RTL8192E, not working with Karmic AMD64

Toshiba L300D Satellite AMD Athlon x2Dual-Core QL-60 4GB RAM running Karmic AMD64.
The wireless does not work, nor does it even show up.
The wireless card is a Realtek RTL8192E.
This is the first wireless problem I have had in a long time.
The wireless worked fine for the 25 minutes that the machine had Windows on it.
I think that it should work without any problems.

You need to install ndiswrapper and use the windows 2000 driver for the card.

Roscoe,

A "confirmed-working-with-Ubuntu" USB wifi stick is likely the shortest path to getting your wifi up-and-running. It's not optimal, but the estimated time to get it working is 2-3 minutes, minus the time to acquire it.

ndiswrapper is also a workaround, but will likely be more time consuming. Personally I'm not a fan of the ndiswrapper route as it gives manufacturers continued cause to ignore compatibility.

Can anyone point to a native driver for the card?

Ubuntu Vancouver LoCo members have sourced a USB wifi network adapter that "works-out-of-the-box" with Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty Jackalope) and Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala). It is available in Richmond BC which is a short drive from Vancouver.

The problem is solved for now.
I used a wireless adapter that worked out of the box, no prob.
Zioncom ipTime WLO123. Power Data090-40900016.
I found it at Anitech in Vancouver thanks to Javier.
