No sound Ubuntu 9.04

Asked by Suresh

I'm Using Acer laptop and recently installed Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope. I was not able to get sound from the video files played from youtube, so i installed the flash player and vlc for mozilla. After this i was able to hear the sound from the videos played thro youtube. I also was able to play music using rhythmbox and also play the video in dvd format. But recently for no reason, my audio is not working and sound preferences test is failing. Initially these test was passing. Audio is not working for music players, dvd players and also in mozilla. But login audio and terminal audio are working. Kindly let me know how to resolve this.

Suresh.

right click on you volume control and go to sound preferences. make sure your sound card is set in there.

\also you can open a terminal
type: alsamixer

use m to mute/unmute and mske sure your master and PCM are unmuted (it will have 00)

also for some reason my brother computer wont work if headphone was unmuted so you can try to mute headphone (it will have MM)

after that is done ctrl+c exits

see if that works also can you paste your audio controller from the command lspci so we can see what controller you are using
