No login screen in ubuntu

Hi Guys, I hope someone may have an answer for this. Ive just installed Ubuntu again well actually about 5 times now, and the install goes well, when it comes to rebooting to start Ubuntu up there is no screen that says log in and password. Anyone had this problem, and is there a fix.

Do you have an nvidia graphics card? Removing the nvidia driver did it for me, but I'm using Kubuntu so I don't know if it applies to you as well.

It's not a solution anyway, just a little workaround which cripples many graphics functions.
