When should I expect feedback on my bug (#122369)?

Asked by Matt England

I'm new to bug reporting in Ubuntu, and I just submitted:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/122369

a couple days ago. I'm not sure if this is the proper procedure, and if it is, when I should expect feedback (eg, whether or not the bug is valid, its perceived importance, etc).

Also see a related forum discussion that is older than the above bug:

In the last 6 month we had an average of 56 bugs/day, and we have a total of around 30000 open bugs now.
So, be patient, every bug is looked upon and proper attention will be given to your too.

By the way, you are more than welcome to join the bug squad to help.....

Also should mention that 56/day is the open ones, 195/day is number of reported bugs.

Cesare et al,

I realize the support community may be swamped. I'm not looking to be nuisance; I'm just looking for information.

Should I take it by your comments that this is the right place to post this issue and I am following the correct procedure? And by the way, does a bug/issue-posting procedure exist somewhere, and if so, where is it?

Also, I take it that responses may not happen for quite a while, possibly weeks. Again, I'm not trying to be flippant, I'm just trying to set a timeline for when I should trigger my personal "todo list" to go bumping this bug. I'll take a guess here: 1 month. If you care to comment on this timeline, please do.

Additionally: I would argue this is not the average bug. It deals with data-integrity and data-availability problems associated with a standard ext3 filesystem on Feisty (but no problems in Dapper). Maybe an attribute for important or category from the bug poster might assist with bug management/prioritization? I could find no such thing via this system, but I suspect that's done so on purpose.

The time it will take is not predictable, and yes, that's the correct place to report it.

There are Debugging Procedures available here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures
