Sorry to hear about your troubles. There are others who have had this problem, do the suggestions on this page help you? In particular the ones by Manu Arya....

Hi,

please remove or disable anon-proxy package. You may uninstall it by running:

$ sudo apt-get purge anon-proxy

then

$ export http_proxy=
$ export ftp_proxy=

and then

$ sudo apt-get upgrade
and/or
$ sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

If that does not work:

- Please check for /etc/bash.bashrc if there's an environment variable http_proxy or ftp_proxy
- Please check on $HOME/.bashrc for the same environment variables

Hope this helps!

instructions. newbe thank you very much for info. and your

Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead. On the synaptic package manager, reload brings up this, could not download all repository index

I was able to update one time. The synaptic package manager would not download. Went to syn. pack. manager, and looked for anon-proxy. Removed anything with proxy in it. I am now able to download updates with update manager, and with synaptic package manager. This problem appears to be solved. Thank all involved for information and time! MCPulley
