How many concurrent users can access Ubuntu

How many concurrent users can access Ubuntu desktop? I have one little executable to be launch from a low-end ubuntu desktop for 40 multiple users, they will map to this folder. This will be the only sole purpose of this desktop. We tried XPPro, but it is limited to 5 users. Any suggestions if therr is a limit to Desktop version? Is there a place that I can learn “how to” to setup a Ubuntu Server, just to run one application? I did a server install of ubuntu, not sure what to do next (I did come from a Netware 311-5.0 world), if this helps any.

I think the limit is the one of the hardware and the software that will run on the Desktop.

You may use the LTSP configuration where thin-clients (could be normal computers as well) are governed by one central unit with a fast CPU (Core 2 or Quad Core 2) and lots of RAM (4 GB, e.g.). This config can support 20-30 thin clients connected and running Firefox + OpenOffice (especially when using Localapps = applications run on the thin client's memory - 512 MB upwards).

Installation of the LTSP server is quite easy. You must have the Ubuntu alternate version.

There is no hard licensing limit, you are only limited by the resources required by the application and the number of users trying to access it. Hence, you need to concern yourself with the CPU/memory/network requirements to make sure your server is powerful enough to give the required response.
