picasa files

Asked by john

Dell Inspiron 6400 using Ubuntu 9.10.

Picasa was giving me trouble, so I uninstalled it. It had been installed following guidance for The Perfect Desktop before the upgrade to Karmic. When I look in the files I still see many files linked to Picasa. How can I clear these out of the system?

Hello

i have a precision m4400. Welcome to the world of linux.

Anyway we need more info: What do you mean "clear these out of the system".

When you say files what files are you referring to?

Do you want to delete it completely or is the files associated to picasa and you want to remove the association??

Thank you for this response. Picasa seemed able to organise photos and
edit them but it could not connect to printer, so it was uninstalled.
Neither Terminal nor Gnome-Do recognise it as installed, but there are
still a lot of files relating to Picasa in the hidden files of Home -
these I would like to remove since there seems little point in keeping
them if the application is not in use.

Hello

Ok now i better understand you.

Bring up a terminal and type:

sudo nautilus

and then password. This will bring up a graphical display so its much easier for you. navigate to where these files are and then just delete them but make sure you delete what you want.

In addition you might want to try sytem >> administration >> computer janitor just to make sure nothing is wrong/unnecessary.

Also do an update just to check if dependicies are ok such that your system doesnt become unstable if you accidently delete something you not suppose to.

Then you should be ok.

After sudo nautilus, I get this output:

john@dell:~$ sudo nautilus

(nautilus:4492): Eel-CRITICAL **: eel_preferences_get_boolean: assertion
`preferences_is_initialized ()' failed
Initializing nautilus-gdu extension
Nautilus-Share-Message: Called "net usershare info" but it failed: 'net
usershare' returned error 255: net usershare: cannot open usershare
directory /var/lib/samba/usershares. Error No such file or directory
Please ask your system administrator to enable user sharing.

Please, applecache, interpret this for me. Thanks

Please consider opening a bug, because this seems to be a problem with samba
and Nautilus integration.

Hello

Im not a great expert on interpreting this type of thing.

This does seem to be a bug becuase you have used sudo before nautilus and it doesnt seem to be giving you sytem administrator priveleges.

In the meantime can you try this please:

Go to system >> administration >> users and groups

Click on the set of keys to unlcock the application and select your user name and select properties. In it select user privleges and tick all the boxes.

Im making you tick all the boxes because thats what i did on my system and i have a system that doesnt give me problems. In addition if this helps out it means there is a bug and then people will know where the broken link is.

Then tell us what you experience again with sudo nautilus etc.

john@dell:~$ sudo nautilus
[sudo] password for john:

(nautilus:4151): Eel-CRITICAL **: eel_preferences_get_boolean: assertion
`preferences_is_initialized ()' failed
Initializing nautilus-gdu extension
Nautilus-Share-Message: Called "net usershare info" but it failed: 'net
usershare' returned error 255: net usershare: cannot open usershare

Please ask your system administrator to enable user sharing.

In addition Root - File Browser opens.

If all this means a bug, please advise how to report it and how to
respond to any subsequent emails relating to the bug.

Thank you, applecache.

Hello

Go to this website: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu

and in the right hand panel you should see: "Report a bug" under the get involved column.

From there on its straight forward.

I havent ever reported a bug before so i wouldnt know how to handle it but it people genearlly just ask you things to post to them like results and how you came about the bug. But the webiste link should tell you lots of info of the process needed.

Enjoy :)

Can you help with this problem?
