can't satisfy dependency for package manager re: network-manager-gnome.

Asked by James Luscher

I was trying to install "network-manager-gnome"
[network-manager-gnome_0.6.2-3_amd64.deb] with package installer, but got the message "Error: Dependency is not satisfiable: libfreetype6".

I downloaded libfreetype6
[libfreetype6_2.1.10-1ubuntu2_amd64.deb] and tryed to install that with package manager but got a message: "Same version is already installed." (!)

I chose "Reinstall package" to make sure, which worked, but installation of "network-manager-gnome" still gives me the 'dependency' error message!!

I'm running a fresh (new to me) installation of Ubuntu Dapper, 6.06.

I don't see how to 'fix' a dependency when the 'dependent' library is installed but package manager says it isn't...

Jluscher, Are you still getting this error or has it been fixed yet?

I tried a few more things but eventually got too frustrated, and decided to dump 6.06 and jump ahead to 6.10 on which I now have network-manager running OK.

Basically, I solved my problem by giving up and moving on ;-)
