Lubuntu abiword docx problem

Asked by hrvoje

Hello,
I have a problem with abiword in lubuntu 12.04 (alternative download), which I use because of low RAM on my HP Compaq nx6110 (512MB). Abiword can't open .docx, and since I have hundreds of files which format shouldn't change in relation to original word documents (like tables, etc), OpenOffice and Libre are out of the question. Abiword is definitely the best choice in that regard, and it's light and fast. I tried to get a .docx plugin, but could find no download site. It should be included in preinstalled package, it says on the official pages. Not in case of Lubuntu; I gues this is because the distro is super light? Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.

I suggest you report a bug. You could use Google Docs to open / edit the files you have

Tnx actionparsnip (andrew-woodhead666), but the files shouldn't go on the web (office policy), plus there are hundreds and hundreds of them... I checked for bug reporting, but I'm not sure if this is a real bug. I have temporarily solved my problem by installing Xubuntu 12.04 on the same machine, where everything works just fine, but it's not so snappy. I would very much like to go back to Lubuntu, and I have it on my VM at home PC, and eagerly wait for some cool solution. Checked previously, there are lots of people with the same problem, but not with the same document handling requirements, of course.

Can you help with this problem?
