NO sound

Asked by jmksd

I am new at this, so please forgive my question. After doing some research I got this info from the terminal and don't know what to do next. I don't hear any sound. I have Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic/Kernel Linux 2.6.31-22 generic/Gnome 2.28.1/244.8MiB/Pentium 111 Coppermine/available space 14 GiB

00:1f.5 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corporation 82801BA/BAM AC'97 Audio Controller (rev 11)
        Subsystem: Gateway 2000 Device 3400
        Subsystem: Gateway 2000 Device 3400
bash: ./alsa-info.sh: No such file or directory

Also under sound preferences, I am not sure what should be chosen under the different categories.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi

I have 10.10.

1: Call the Gnome Alsa Mixer. Check all the mutes and the loudness. The second bar, called Master M, is important.

2: Read the following: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshootingProcedure

Please execute step 2, then send us the full terminal output from step 3 and step 4 from the procedure mentioned above.

Please also specify the exact model and make of your PC (if known).

Hope it helps.
Peter

Again, please excuse my ignorance. What do you mean "Call the Gnome Alsa Mixer"? Where do I call? I need the step by step on how to do this before I can proceed to step 2.

Thank you!

You can find ther Gnome Alsa Mixer in Applications > Sound and Video or in Synaptic. In Synaptic search for alsa mixer and install gnome-alsamixer.

It took me a long time to find the Gnome Alsa Mixer, but I did find and install it. I attempted to do step 2 and got as far as Scrolling. There wasn't anything that said " unlimited." I saw scrollback set to 512, scroll on output etc. Since I did not see unlimited, please advise if I can move to the next step.

I have a Gateway E -3400
Pentium III (Coppermine)
245MB (82MB used)
Operating System Linux 2.0
audio adapter - ICH - Intel 82801BA-ICH2

After I click Edit profiles, the only profile listed is Default. I click Edit and then the tab Scrolling. There is no switch that says Unlimited that I can see.

Is there something that I can install so someone could take over my computer to help me with the sound issue? I am reaching many dead ends when trying to follow the steps.

I was able to update to Ubuntu Maverick and now there is a Unlimited selection. I will post the terminal info in a new launchpad called: No sound Terminal Output.

Thanks!
